We are pleased to announce that A Life In Orange is back, and better than ever. Sharing everything about Motorsport marshalling. From motorsport volunteer stories, a marshal blog and creating a volunteer motorsport community. There’s more on that to come, but let’s have a look back at the history.

10 years ago, Rob Lee set up A Life In Orange to share stories, insights and experiences from the motorsport marshalling world. Having always had a keen interest in motorsports, and being introduced to marshalling in 2010 by his Uncle, Rob wanted to share his experiences with other people to get them interested in this world. Combining his degree of Sports Journalism, his love of story telling, and this passion for marsahlling, he set up a rudementary blog and got to work.

It wasn’t until he worked out that the A Life In Orange blog could be submitted for his final dissertation at University did he put body and soul into the project. Churning out content on a weekly basis and broadening his experience within marshalling, it managed to grow to a wider audience.

When it was originally launched, it was a blog only, covering numerous topics, including who can be a marshal, what makes a marshal, trips to the Formula 1, Le Mans, America and Belgium, as well as what it’s like to marshal at different circuits around the UK.

Over the last decade, the website underwent numerous redesigns, launched a podcast… twice, and even sold branded cloth patches and stickers. However, it lost its way and just after the COVID-19 Pandemic, it went away altogether.

That was a shame, but with this website, we are happy to announce that it is coming back in a new and exciting way.

What’s New for A Life In Orange?

The first thing that we have done is not new, but old. We have returned to basics and will be writing and sharing blogs about motorsports marshalling, providing you with insights, stories, information, and experiences to share.

A new motorsport marshalling community

We have a new platform for our volunteer motorsport community, a place where you can join, ask questions, and meet like-minded individuals. Using Discord for this platform was a great way for us to section the chat down into different race series and locations, making it a great place to share questions. If you want to join a community of like-minded people be sure to sign-up to Discord and join the A Life In Orange volunteer motorsport community.

Social media relaunch

While we already have a good following on Facebook and a growing audience on Instagram, we have now added TikTok to our list of channels – be sure to search for A Life In Orange across all platforms – bringing you the stories of motorsport marshalling, our motorsport volunteer stories and the entire volunteer motorsport community together.

All this is ready for our next step in our journey. Which you don’t need to wait for another blog to be released but you can read about it below.

A Life In Orange podcast – Beyond The Overalls

Motorsport marshalling is as successful as it is because of the strength of the people who volunteer within the sport. If you take a small cross-section of volunteers – think about the different people who are there, and the different jobs they have in life.

For example, the last time I was marshalling I met; a retired teacher, a personal tutor, a business owner, someone who works for the council, a florist and someone who trains helicopter pilots… for the Navy.

All these people have their own stories in marshalling and life, which the podcast will hopefully uncover.
